My students need the connection between home and school. They can take home a literacy bag once a week that has a specific theme to it. They can read the book with their family and then engage in a learning activity that is also themed to match the book! Whether it be counting, writing, or playing an addition game, they can engage and spend time with their families. Children can develop motor skills by reading a gingerbread book and then creating gingerbreads with cookie cutters and play-doh, then create silly sentences. The possibilities are endless with the themes and it will be FUN LEARNING for them! In my cart, I have bags to create the literacy bags, books and activities. I have markers to design the bags. I also have a couple hands on activities that will be paired with a themed book. I added a few books that I don't already have in my class library to incorporate with themes.
