The adjustment from Kindergarten to First grade can be rigorous for children. We study reading, writing, grammar, phonics, math, science, and social studies in our classroom. That is a lot of time for a 6-7 year old student to spend in one place! Flexible seating has become very popular recently because it gives students a choice when it comes to how they will spend several hours a day in the classroom.
We need wobble seats and floor cushions. I believe that giving students choice will increase engagement and provide an opportunity to teach young learners about accountability.
My class of 23 includes students with a wide variety of learning styles, needs, and talents. I believe that offering them flexible seating is a great step towards meeting the needs of these children and giving them a comfortable environment in which to learn and grow.
