All of my students live in poverty. There is not one student at my school that is not considered poor or working poor. Not only do close to 80% of the students receive free or reduced lunch, but for many of them, it is the only meal they get each day. My students have seen more pain and sorrow in their life, in their short 17 years, than any person ever should.
However, even with these struggles, these students are unbelievable. They show up each day with a smile on their face, they continue to try their best, and they want to be successful. My students are my kids - they are the reason I teach, and my heart yearns to give them the best, because I believe they deserve the world.
