Our classroom serves students with a range of disabilities and differences. Some of our learners are new to our community from places all over the world. We live in a beautiful community, but we don't always have access to diverse and multicultural materials. Every young student needs access to materials that can represent them and look like them.
These new materials will be used in craft projects, small group, and in play activities that will foster a sense of belonging and encourage self-esteem and confidence! Our first unit is All About Me, and for three weeks we focus our learning on introducing ourselves and learning about each other. Our projects will be able to be detailed and inclusive of all of the abilities and diversity of each student. Students will build a foundation and be able to explore and build empathy by playing with toys that represent themselves and their friends for the remainder of the year. This project will support our sense of belonging and classroom community.
