I want to build a diverse and inclusive classroom library for my students because books have the power to offer mirrors for all of my students so they can feel seen and represented, which in turn will cultivate a safe and welcoming classroom environment. An inclusive and diverse array of books also allow for windows into the lives, traditions and cultural backgrounds of people from all over, creating compassionate, empathic, loving and understanding students. All in all, I believe every student should feel validated and represented in their classrooms, books are just one resource that allows me to do so.
