We are a new, sheltered ELL program in one of the largest high schools in the Twin Cities area. My students are mostly 9th and 10th graders and have all been living in the U.S. for under two years. Many of the students are SLIFE (students with limited or interrupted formal education) and are learning all about school culture and expectations while also figuring out English. Despite being in a very crowded classroom, my students are always willing to learn. When asked what they want to be when they grow up, they give answers from "President of Somaliland" to "a doctor for animals" to "a mom"--and everything in between. They are wonderful students who deserve a quality educational experience.
