My students are first graders who are from families who are struggling to just get by. Many receive free breakfast, and free or reduced lunch. Many of their first language is not English. I use many pictures of real life objects to explain and show my students what the word in English is. They also often use the computer to find pictures of things to help them understand what they are in English.
