My 1st grade students are pillars of the future. They need opportunities to fully engage with the tools of the future. Being able to navigate the vast quantity of information and content on the internet will equip them for the challenges of tomorrow. These headphones will be used with iPads and Chromebooks for creating and engaging in content. Some examples include; listening to audiobooks, searching for informative videos, playing math games, listening to music, and engaging in mindfulness activities online. One especially important use will be reviewing and editing one another's audio and video creations on various learning apps such as Seesaw and Google Classroom.
My students are in control as self-directed learners. They have the choice to express their understanding through many means of representation. While some students can best express themselves through writing, others may be able to show their learning more clearly using a digital platform. Personal audio devices are invaluable in a classroom that fully utilizes technology.
My students also engage in peer-editing. They will use these accessories to listen to each other speak, read and perform. This will give them an opportunity to provide feedback to one another. Teaching students how to give and receive critique is a necessary component in nurturing innovation. My students will develop a growth mindset while also learning about the importance of respectful digital communication.
