My elementary students come from a low socioeconomic area where crime and violence are part of everyday life. Although they may experience these hardships, they come into my class with smiles on their faces, eager to learn and excited to do art. I'd like to think that I can create a safe, warm, and inviting environment for my students to find creative and healthy outlets for some of their fears and frustrations.
My students love to learn about different artists, read books about art periods and try out new styles. We try to keep current with advancements in technology, digital art and graphics, focusing on STEAM based cross-curricular lessons. For many of my students, these are brand new experiences. I would like to make those experiences as positive and enriching as possible.
