My students outside of school have rough lives. My classroom provides a sense of stability and a teacher that will love them unconditionally. This is their last year in elementary school and I want the classroom to reflect the joy that elementary school can bring. I want the classroom to reflect a love of learning, an engagement in the content, and an empowerment.
The students in my class need to feel like they are at home in the classroom. Research shows that allowing choice in where and how students learn increases student retention of knowledge. They become more engaged and are more comfortable in the classroom. The items that I am asking for are items that will allow for a more flexible classroom environment to begin this feeling of a home verses a place they might not have enjoyed during other school years. Their learning will grow tremendously with these items as it will allow them to move from their normal desks and chairs into other options. These items will give them more opportunities to make choices within the classroom and their learning, choices on how and where to best focus, and will in turn help them grow and learn more as students.
