Until now, my students have not had consistent access to art or creative practice. Beginning this year, I will have the opportunity to expose my students to artists, art styles, creating, and making of all kinds. My students and I will be building an art program together from the ground up. We are starting from scratch, which means we are starting with too few materials. This project will set us up to begin making multiple art projects and allow my students to explore and experience tools and mediums they have not yet had the opportunity to explore. The newsprint, drawing paper, and black paper will allow me to develop a variety of multimedia art projects that utilize different mark-making mediums. We will explore line and form, texture, value, color, and much more. The oil pastels will serve as just one of these versatile mediums that my students will be able to explore in our new art room. Not only will these materials support the exploration of art and creative practice, but the projects my students create in our art room will also support content learning in the areas of math, science, reading, and social studies as we pair our creative work with content learning from their grade-level classrooms.
