These books will continue to enhance the literacy-rich environment that I strive to maintain in my classroom. These books are high-interest and relevant to the experiences that many of my students have had which will encourage them to stay invested in their learning. "Touching Spirit Bear" will give students opportunities to connect with a culture that may be different from their own, but, ultimately, holds some of the same values my students find to be morally imperative at heart. "The Hate U Give" will be used as a book club novel in an effort to expose students to the effects of police brutality in urban communities. Students will read this novel prior to viewing the film later in the year.
My ultimate goal is for all of my students to experience true growth in their independent reading and comprehension in my classroom. These books will make that possible.
