These books will be very beneficial to my classroom library because it will provide students with a variety of books to select from. These books will also strengthen my students’ ability to read more independently, actively engage in discussion during small group (guided reading) instruction, and help them become fluent readers from having opportunities to practice their reading through continuous exposure.
Students are more motivated to read if they have an opportunity to choose from a library that satisfies their interests. A few of these books will also be utilized during whole group read-alouds. This is when students will be able to hear the expressions portrayed by characters, visualize the actions taking place during that particular time and even practice making predictions about what could happen later in the text. I have also included Nonfiction books that can be used with teaching a few Science Essential Standards for my state! They can be utilized by students, too, as an additional resource when learning about Ecosystems and Biomes, as well as, Human Body Systems.
