In an effort to continue building towards a wholesome, kindhearted and inclusive classroom, I plan to utilize meaningful literature and community building PE games. My students need books that help reinforce kindness, uniqueness, diversity, grit, perseverance and community. I purposefully selected books that showcase these themes and offer opportunity for representation of different cultures. The books also include different family dynamics, people from different socioeconomic backgrounds, abilities, strengths and weaknesses. I am planning to use the books for read alouds that will coincide with lessons in writer's workshop (mentor texts), introducing Project Based Learning (PBL) projects and teaching social emotional skills. Through literature and community building games, I want my students to be provided with ways to connect and work better with others. I am also requesting playground balls, basketballs and other outside play equipment. The PE equipment that I selected will help me to create more community among students in my classroom. With this equipment, all students will be given the opportunity for full involvement.
