These materials I am requesting are essential for my students. As the students begin the next Language Arts unit, they will have the opportunity to respond to the question: "What value does technology bring to people's lives?" through a variety of sources. Our classroom goal is to make learning relevant and engaging through means of read-alouds, collaborative debates, and various projects. My class is diverse, and my students have a wide range of instructional needs. Allowing them access to a printed book for a read-aloud will strengthen their own reading and comprehension skills. It allows students, who may not normally have the opportunity to read this book, to access the information and make sense of what the story is about.
Several of my students would not be able to read this book without this support, thus missing out on embarking on an adventure in which a boy their own age uses courage and perseverance to save his village. My students truly have a love for reading. This project will only enhance this enthusiasm and also enrich their understanding of how and why people value technology.
