My 2nd-5th grade students are all deaf or hard-of-hearing, but that's where the similarities end!
My students come from many different countries, cultures and backgrounds.
Some have been at our school since they were 3, others have just arrived with interrupted education or little-to-no access to language in their home country. Most are considered English Language Learners. Many have disabilities such visual impairments, developmental delays or emotional/behavioral challenges. Some students sign, some talk, some use AAC (augmentative and alternative communication), some do a little of everything. They are resilient, funny and hard working students. I am proud to work with them every day!
