How many books did you read in middle school? How about high school? How many did you just skip completely because you thought they were too hard or too boring?
Even as an English teacher and a lifelong lover of reading, I didn't always read everything the teacher asked me to. A lot of those titles weren't written for kids and were so boring in my teenage eyes! And I bet it's true for most of us.
I am a part of a growing wave of teachers who think that giving kids more power in the selection of reading materials will ultimately lead to better readers, more successful students, and happier people overall!
