I work almost exclusively with talented, low-income students of color who come to our school from across Chicago's South Side. We are relatively diverse by Chicago standards, and by many metrics our school is highly successful in its mission: educating the whole student. My students study Arabic and Chinese, the history and geography of Chicago, and even forensic science. Our math curriculum is unique in that we do not exclusively follow the traditional Algebra-Geometry-Algebra II pathway; we follow a Common Core aligned, integrated curriculum that touches on many areas of mathematics throughout their four years here.
