I teach 3rd grade at preK-8 elementary school in Chicago. There are 372 students who attend this neighborhood school. The demographics are as follows: Asian - 1.4%, Black - 10.1%, Hispanic - 59.6%, White - 24.9%, other -4.1%. The statistics of my school are: Low Income - 67.5%, Diverse Learners - 13.9%, Limited English - 21.6%,
My classroom is comprised of 24 students 13 girls and 11 boys. The class is diverse in terms of race there are African American, white, and Hispanic students. In terms of learning, I have students who have IEPs, students who receive reading support and intervention, students in the bilingual program, and students who perform well above average.
There is a great deal of support at my school. The reading interventionist pulls students every day and the special education teacher and bilingual teacher are very supportive of the needs in my classroom.
