As part of our school-wide literacy growth efforts, having a wide selection of diverse books, at different reading levels, will ensure that there will be something for everyone.
Finding the right book will help grow a generation of readers. As a reluctant reader in high school, I would have benefited greatly if there were "books like me" on my school library shelves. I have selected a variety of books by Asian American authors that represent our Asian ethnicities on campus.
English Language Arts classes will also be competing against each other to see which class (by grade) will have the most minutes read. Having these books available for their independent reading selections will definitely help students earn minutes for the reading challenge. Mahalo.
