My STEM Club students are a curious group of young people. They are interested in understanding how things work, but they lack hands-on opportunities to follow that curiosity.
My project will introduce them to scale modeling as a way of understanding how things are constructed. They will follow instructions, work together, use their creativity and build their own take-home project.
The Next Generation Science Standards encourages model building, in all it's iterations, for middle school students: "A practice of both science and engineering is to use and construct models as helpful tools for representing ideas and explanations. These tools include diagrams, drawings, physical replicas, mathematical representations, analogies, and computer simulations."
