Many students come to school without the necessary foundation of social/emotional/behavioral skills to be truly successful in the classroom. The books requested in this project target specific skills, which the child can then think about and apply to their own behavior. For example, the book Enemy Pie teaches children the difficulties and rewards related to making new friends. The book But It's Not My Fault will teach children about how to accept responsibility and not blame others. There are also activity book guides to help the children apply what they learn through practice.
By donating to this project, you will improve academic achievement by helping to give children the social and emotional skills necessary to be successful socially and academically. Children with difficulty interacting with others, difficulty managing their emotions, and difficulty learning or applying their knowledge will benefit from the tree house and sensory equipment during therapy sessions. They will practice their new skills using the dollhouse, and during role-play with peers. The goal is to improve their coping skills so that they can use their newly learned skills when faced with challenges in the classroom.
