My students start the year on many different reading levels. Some have a love for reading and some do not. It is my goal to help them grow as readers during their time in my classroom. I also try to foster a love for reading by showing my excitement about the books that I am reading.
The students at my school come from low income families that do not have many reading materials at home. Our classroom/school library is the only access to books that they have. My students' favorite time of the day is called "Tiger Time." This is when they can choose any place in the room to read whatever book they choose to help build stamina. The students sit on the floor, in corners, under desks, wherever they feel most comfortable to get lost in their reading.
