Part of our fabulous diversity at our school is the diversity of learning styles. Many children are simply not built to sit still all day AND be active, engaged learners.
By providing them with seating choices, their need for physical stimulation will be met WHILE they are actively learning.
Some students can sit at a regular classroom desk and use the chair bands to fidget with using their feet. This stimulation is all they need to remain focused. Other students may need sensory input through their bottoms and using the wiggle cushion will do the job. Still others may require a little bounce in their day while developing some core strength and the yoga ball and chair is just what they need. And some students may prefer to sit on a cushion on the rug and work at a low table rather than at a desk.
My hope is to provide several types of alternative seating for my students so that they can better meet the demands of the 4th grade curriculum.
