Our school serves approximately 400 very low income students (Pre-K to 8th grade) in an urban setting. The majority of students (90%) are Puerto Rican and are bilingual in both English and Spanish. Most of our students live too far from the only branch of the public library in our community to get there often, and students and families alike have requested that I, as the librarian, develop a larger and more diverse school library to give students greater access to the books they want to read.
