I am an Occupational Therapist looking to fund a Sensory Room for our Autism Program! Here at our school, we have a large population of children with special needs that require extra assistance and services. Not only can our children with special needs benefit from this room, but, so will our entire school. Children spend hours at their desk and are required to perform structured tasks most of the day. This room will help improve attention, self-regulation, and help promote positive socialization with their peers. The materials requested will be used to expand our OT/PT room and partially transform it into a sensory room. The other area of the room will remain as the main area for students receiving OT/PT services.
The materials we are asking for will help provide students with several different types of sensory input that will improve attention and provide a calming multi-sensory environment. This room will allow for meaningful movement and input which in turn, will improve performance and function in their classroom. This will be a great addition to our school in order to provide our students with a positive outlet, engage in movement, and improve their social-emotional skills.
