The first thing you see as you enter my classroom is the classroom library. The shelves are filled with a variety of books that students are thrilled to read. Each year I ask the students what books they would like to see in the classroom, as they should have the most agency in what should be on the shelves. When students see new books appearing they fall in love with reading all over again. There can never be enough books! Here is what three of my students had to say about receiving new books:
"I think we should have more books in the classroom because I like reading books and I want to see new ones!"
"My favorite thing about books is when you get new ones, because it is so exciting and like a birthday and Christmas put together!"
"Miss M. loves books and wants to see us reading and enjoying reading. It's nice to have a room full of books that we actually like and read. Usually that isn't the case."
