I teach seventh grade students who attend an urban middle school in southern California. They are inquisitive, active, and energetic! Many of them are avid readers who cannot get their hands on enough books. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, our school and classroom library does not have a wide selection of current, interesting, or sought after books. Many of these students have little if any, books at home and cannot afford to purchase books that they'd like to read. The public library in their community is quite small and often times, does not carry the books they'd like to read. A significant number of my students come from single parent households or live with a guardian. A large number of my students live in households that are experiencing financial hardship. Since many of their parents have to work long hours or hold two jobs, they do not have the resources or time to take them to libraries in other parts of town. They would greatly appreciate obtaining this set of books.
