My music therapy classes teach and engage the students in learning about their world through music. Many of our students do not function well in large classes and groups. In the music therapy environment, however, the music is so motivating that students are able to participate at their highest level where a "disability" is no longer a hindrance. They will be given a chance to express themselves, look like their peers, and participate like their peers.
Many of my students are nonverbal and rhythm instruments give them a voice. Having egg shakers, maracas and cabasas (all rhythm instruments) will allow students to participate more like their peers.
Ordering instruments that are washable will allow me to sanitize them between classes and cut down on communicable illnesses.
