I teach English I in the very south of Louisiana. My students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds; however, that's not a crutch we are allowed to use in my classroom. I have HIGH, attainable expectations for all students and they know that from day one. I want students to learn and love learning just for the sake of learning. We work hard and we want to play hard--as long as that play is productive and educational.
