I teach at a last-chance, alternative school that caters to students working to keep up with their educations despite being removed from their locally designated schools. Over the course of a single year, I teach approximately 200 transient high school students. Many of my students have had negative academic experiences that have led them to give up on themselves. They all need a teacher who sets high standards and helps them realize their full potential. My goal is to be that teacher. My ability to help my students depends, in part, on my access to the right tools. I am requesting the tools needed for them to start the year off right. When my students enter my classroom, their only concern should be their education. Providing them with pencils, notebooks, erasers, highlighters, and other basic necessities will equip them for success by ensuring that their focus remains on learning.
