As a Teacher Librarian, I am in the unique postiion of working with every student at our school It is a position I honor and hope to do my very best. The students deserve nothing less. In a city where 75% of the population did not graduate from college, high school is a big deal. Our students live in one of the most dangerous and poverty stricken areas of the state. Media reports constantly reflect only the negative side of things. But despite the violence, poverty, and despair constantly surrounding these students, they somehow manage to persevere and value the education that will not only provide them with a better life, but give them the tools to change their environment. Unfortunately, year after year of budget cuts have made it impossible to give these kids the same kind of educational experience students in more affluent communities receive.
