My first grade students are bright, energetic scholars that have the highest of aspirations. They are primarily Hispanic English language learners see the value of reading and have developed an insatiable desire to explore all kinds of texts. They are also strong mathematicians and scientists that love to collaborate around difficult problems and eagerly present their ideas and/or strategies. These scholars look to literature, mathematics, and the sciences as a way to broaden their horizons and prepare them for their future careers. As such, they are always looking for novel ways to explore the world around them, model their thinking, and explain their ideas. When my scholars have access to tools to push their thinking, show their ideas creatively, and challenge them, they thrive. They show an increased motivation to learn, collaborate more effectively, and engage in richer discussions.

About my class
