I have the privilege to serve the community of Weedpatch, CA., a small, rural town in southern Kern County. Although a close-knit community, where everyone knows everyone, Weedpatch has its challenges: approximately half of households live below the poverty-line; the median annual household income is approximately half of the national average; 99% of our students qualify for free or reduced meals; the majority of our students are first-generation Americans; approximately two-thirds of our students are English-language learners.
Despite these obstacles, I am inspired, on a daily-basis, by my students' work ethic and hunger for knowledge: they take nothing for granted, and appreciate everything given to them.
They have big aspirations, but they just need some help along the way. Thank you for helping them succeed.
