Individualism and Choices: Students will benefit from these resources as they will be better able to understand how making choices in society can severely impact their future by exploring societal and legal issues while evaluating multiple viewpoints.
Students will be focusing on some very important "essential questions" around this unit some of which are: Does systemic racism exist today? Can we value freedom if we haven’t fought for it? What is the relationship between male teens of color and the court system? What is our personal relationship with the court system? As teens?
The resources needed for this unit are a class set of 30 texts from the author Walter Dean Myers titled Monster. I would also love at least 3 Graphic Novels to help support my reluctant readers, and I would also like at least one audio CD to help support my students on IEPs with reading levels below the actual text.
