Ours is an inner-city, Title One school; our population is socioeconomically disadvantaged. At the same time, our students are extremely diverse, representing every race and part of the world: Southeast Asians, Pacific Islanders, Eastern Europeans, African Americans, Hispanic/Latinx, Native Americans, and Caucasians. We have a very small budget for art supplies, and after years of cuts, equipment and supplies have become damaged or depleted and could not be replaced. I believe my students deserve the same kind of access to materials and projects that students in better-funded art programs have.
