Montclair High School is a Title I (low income) school with a focus on preparing students for college and career readiness. In my classroom, the goal is for students to learn problem solving and critical thinking skills through hands-on clay projects. I outline objectives for students to meet in a given project and each student plans and creates an original work of art.
We do our very best to reuse and recycle materials in the classroom such as reclaiming unfired clay, and using makeshift tools from items like toothpicks, bamboo steaks, used gift cards, and broken guitar strings. There are, however, some items that require purchasing new and since funding is tight, we have to often limit the types of projects we can do.
We thank you for taking the time to read about our classroom and appreciate your help in making our next project possible.
