My students come from an area of California where over 50 languages are spoken. Due this is variety, my students bring a wealth of cultures, experiences, and information to my classroom. Because it is mostly an immigrant population our students are also victims of extreme poverty. Our district superintendent recently said that eighty-seven percent of our students live in poverty. This fact makes it difficult for their parents to provide the background knowledge and technology use needed to thrive in school today.
Our school is located in the middle of the richly diverse state of California. Our school is a comprehensive high school, offering a wide range of courses in order to challenge and educate its varied student body. One of these courses, Art I, provides students with the only art experience many of them will receive during their time in high school.
