My classroom has a set of chromebooks that we utilize often. We will often listen to an education video or audio clip on them, having the students provide the headphones.
I teach in a poorer community and many children can't afford or forget their headphones and have to read subtitles instead.
The subtitles are often wrong and lead to a worse understanding of the content they are going over. Subtitles also lead to the students going slower than their peers through the content because they have to read instead of listening, making it harder for them to be engaged and excited to learn. Headphones are a simple thing that will make a world of difference.
