Imagine a classroom and school community where students are deeply engaged in the books that they are reading each and every day! This is the classroom I am building daily. The love of reading is something that many of my students have not yet found.
Building a robust independent classroom library where students are reading about characters with similar experiences as them is paramount in making this happen. I want students to LOVE reading because they can make personal connections while at the same time expanding their horizons. Students in my classroom need exposure to authors that write about diverse topics: Latino/African-American identify, sexuality, religion and equality. They deserve the opportunity to fall in love with books and build a lasting relationship with literature in order to become more empathic and knowledgeable citizens of the world.
Helping to fund this project is a giant step in that direction!
