I teach 6th and 8th grade U.S. History and 7th grade Civics. My classroom is filled with historical facts, figures, images, maps, globes, atlases, flags, books, and much more! My students come from very diverse backgrounds. Many of my students are of Hispanic and Haitian descent. Most of my students are bilingual with some having the extreme advantage of being trilingual! My goal is to create an inclusive learning environment that can highlight and emphasize the diverse needs of my students. Since there are many sides/versions of history, my students and I dig deep to analyze history from various perspectives. After we've viewed an historical event from the eyes of everyone involved, we form our own logical, fact-based opinions to deepen our understanding. Our classroom comes alive with students acting out the Revolutionary War, creating our own colony, interactive gallery walks, and technology-based projects.
