Students will have the opportunity to participate in the FIRST Lego league. As the league website states, the students will "research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®, then compete on a table-top playing field." This will allow a traditionally underserved group of students to apply their knowledge and skills. The hope is this will spark their interest in the STEM field that will last long past this year. According to FIRST close to 9 out of 10 students reported that they are more willing to do well in school and have more interest attending college thanks to their participation.
