I serve a population of students who represent all of the socioeconomic levels of our county, from the poorest to the most privileged of students. Our middle school is the ultimate melting pot. The diversity of the school is its greatest strength. It is here that students break down social barriers on a daily basis. However, because of the diversity of my student population I have the responsibility of making lessons that will appeal to all different types of students. My students are very interested in the art that I make. Whenever I show them my work they are shocked at the level of art that I make. I know that if I had the materials I need I could give them this same excited feeling about their own art. Rather than simply making a tempera painting, I would love to be able to teach them how to paint in the manner of the impressionists. The process that I use is not complicated but the materials have always been prohibitively expensive.
