These students comes from all different cultural and economic backgrounds. Their ages range from freshmen all the way up to seniors. Their diversity is one of their biggest strengths as students. Here they learn about the intricacies and differences among their cultures. Not only are they students of family and consumer sciences, but they become active participants in the the global, cultural conversation. As they learn about the food and nutrition that connects all of use, they begin to make connections between each of them. This leads to not only proficiency in the class material, but it adds to the positives social structure of our society.
Imagine for a second a kitchen lab full of eager students. A world of food, nutrition, and cultural literacy is just waiting for them to broaden their horizons and better their lives and the lives of others. However, they are met with disappoint in the form of outdated, broken, and missing equipment.
