This year I have truly learned the power of student choice in reading to give students a new lease on their academic potential. I am hoping to build a classroom library to inspire through a variety of genres. Rather than rely on the Euro-centric canon of literature, I hope to engage my students with literature from authors who look and speak more like them.
With these books, I plan to engage my current and future students with open-ended reading activities, discussions, and projects that allow them to explore and show their skills with a high degree of individual choice. I want to create lifelong readers.
