This upcoming school year, I would like to introduce flexible seating in my classroom.
I believe seating options will empower my students by giving them control over their learning environment. The choices I have picked out will allow my students to find a seat that is comfortable for them. Many times this year, I saw students sitting uncomfortable on chairs. They became distracted, and usually didn't perform to their best of their ability on assignments.
This year, I want to avoid that. I want my students to find the seat they will work most comfortably in.
I am also seeking bean bags for students to use during our independent reading time. I believe the best way to enjoy a book is with a nice, fluffy pillow surrounded by calm classical music.
Many of our second graders are still building their stamina to read a book on their own and it can be challenging. I'm hoping that by providing bean bags, they can be comfortable and learn the pleasures of a good book.
Many in our community are still rebuilding from Hurricane Harvey.
I want my classroom to be a safe haven for students and a getaway from the harsh reality Hurricane Harvey's aftermath.
