This year I have the privilege of building the STEAM program from the ground up for two school buildings housing 4th and 5th graders. These students have already begun to explore block coding through activities in the classroom and are super-excited when they see their codes run on the screen, whether it be a simple movement, an animation, or a game they have created.
Adding Micro:Bit to the experience will allow students to make the leap from the digital creation phase to engaging with a physical product that follows their commands. In the beginning, we can apply our knowledge of block coding to create light displays and manipulate the display with events such as button-presses, shaking, or sound reactions. Later on, we can use these same devices with more complex codes or combine them with other tools and devices to take learning to a whole new level!
