My students attend school in a financially distressed district in an urban city. The majority of them receive a free or reduced lunch. My students are faced with many challenges outside of their control in their community that bring some of them to school with a deflated attitude.
Like most elementary school aged children, they love to come to physical education class to have fun, play games and have a feeling of success. Unfortunately this isn't the case all the time. With a limited equipment supply that is old and tattered, my students don't always have the feeling of success. My students aren't able to play with the equipment that they want due to budget cuts which increased class sizes, increased the number of classes that come to PE at a time, and no budget to purchase new equipment. My students would be excited at the opportunity to play with new equipment.
