I proudly serve as the 8th grade Math Teacher at Summit Public Schools-Tamalpais in Richmond, CA. Prior to teaching, I spent some time community organizing in my hometown, LA, where I worked with charter families to elect a charter friendly school board member. I decided to take a step back from education policy and advocacy because I believe that effective education policy making requires that one understands what it actually takes to run an effective classroom.
I teach because I come from a community that has had so much taken away, but I believe that education is the one thing that no one can take from you; I teach math because the ability to manipulate numbers, or recognize manipulated numbers, is powerful; I teach math in middle school because I believe that, with the proper tools, young people can change the world.
