The therapeutic benefits of a multi-sensory experience for children who have special needs have been well-documented. Children who access sensory rooms which incorporate lights, sounds and textures are able to explore the world at their own leisure and reap the benefits of relaxation or gentle stimulation.
We have been gifted a room adjacent to our TLC classrooms to use for our very own sensory room. This sensory room must be designed with great care so that it is both safe and interactive. We would like to paint the room with pastel colors, place filters over the fluorescent lights, and install light projectors. We would like to provide the students with fiber optics and interactive LED toys as well. Through the use of light, touch, and sound, we hope to enhance our students' experiences at school. We need seating, lighting, paint and other supplies to create a sensory room.
